Welcome
Welcome to our community of reading enthusiasts, authors, and independent bookstores. This page includes tips about how to get started on the LitMinds website. In addition, you can visit FAQs and the Site Feedback board to get answers to questions often asked by our members. If all else fails, you can always send us an email at feedback@litminds.org. Now, let's get LitMinded!
Boards
Our boards are at the core of what LitMinds is all about. This is where you can read, discuss, and ask questions about books, reading interests, authors, booksellers, literary events - basically any topic that fits within the realm of reading and books.
To guide you, LitMinds has provided a short list of board categories:
- Fiction Books
- Non-fiction Books
- Short Reads (magazine and newspaper articles, etc.)
- Literary Events (author talks, literary festivals, etc.)
- Book Industry (bookstores, publishing, trends, etc.)
- Site Feedback (what's working, what isn't, reporting bugs)
We will continue to create new board categories as critical mass arises around additional topics. You can get to the boards by clicking on the Boards link from the main navigation banner on the top of each page. Click on a specific category to view most recent discussions. You can also jump right into a specific discussion thread by clicking on the board title within the discussions appearing on the homepage.
To post a new discussion or reply to an existing one, you will need to be registered and logged in.
- Posting: You can choose to post a new topic or post to an existing topic. Select a board category and click on the "Start a discussion" button to create a new topic.
- Reply: To reply directly to a specific post, click on the "Reply" link within a discussion thread. You will be able to edit your comment by clicking on the "Edit" link on the right side.
- Report this post: If you find a post vulgar, inappropriate, spam-like, off-topic, or simply great, click this link and fill out the form and our moderators will be notified.
myLitMind
This is your spot for sharing your reading list and interests, keeping track of your posts, and letting other LitMinds know all about you. You need to be registered to have a myLitMind profile. If you want to register now, click here.
- Reading Profile: Tell other LitMinds what you're all
about by adding to your profile on the left side of your myLitMind
page. This section lets you share your reading interests, post a
photograph, and include a link to your personal website or blog. You
can edit your profile responses at any time by clicking on the "edit"
button in the top right hand corner of the profile.
- myReadingList: This space on your myLitMind page
allows you to keep an ongoing list of your books. Your list has three
sections - Currently Reading, Thinking about Reading, and Read It.
"Thinking about Reading" includes any book you are considering reading
in the future. "Currently Reading" shares any items you are in the
middle of reading. "Read It" lists what books you have previously read
and gives you the chance to rate books and track by the date (month,
year) you finished them.
To add a book, click on the "add" button. The book title and author is required for a book to be included on myReadingList. You can also provide your comments and rating of the book. To delete or make changes to a book on your list, you will need to click the "delete" button.
Features
Our LitMinds team has created a couple extra features for your reading pleasure. Check back regularly to see what else we add.
- Who's LitMinded: By visiting "Who's LitMinded," you can discover other LitMind members. Every time you visit this page, you will find a handful of featured profiles, including celebrities and fictional characters (Harry Potter is one of our favorites but there are many others to find). You can search for a particular username or browse the many profiles provided in alphabetical order. Featured profiles on the RandomProfilizer are added and changed on an ongoing basis, so check back often to see who else is LitMinded.
- LitMinded Content: On the right hand side of the home page and boards, you will see a section devoted to fun tidbits, quotes, and facts about books, authors, and many other LitMinded topics. This content is always changing so keep a lookout for what shows up next.
- Blog: At http://www.litminds.org/blog, you can read what our intrepid LitMinds team has discovered in their endeavor towards finding new and fun ways to celebrate readership and enhance the reading experience.
